Agency overflow engineering

Keep delivery moving without adding permanent headcount.

When your agency has sold good work but the team is at capacity, Backlog Busted can take a bounded engineering item through implementation, tests, independent review, and pull-request handoff.

One client. One repository. One approved work item at a time.

Good fit

Overflow work that already has a reason to exist.

We are most useful when your agency owns the client relationship and needs reliable implementation capacity behind it.

Feature delivery

A clearly bounded client feature with explicit acceptance criteria.

Integrations

APIs, webhooks, billing, auth, internal services, and external systems.

Bug clusters

A related set of defects that can be reproduced, fixed, tested, and reviewed together.

Backlog cleanup

Work your senior developers should not have to keep carrying between larger projects.

Before we touch code

We verify the work, the access, and the boundary.

Agency overflow only works if the client relationship stays clean. We do not treat repository access as permission to do whatever is available.

01

Authority

Confirm the agency is authorized to engage us on the client work and identify the exact repository and work item.

02

Read-only preflight

Inspect the issue, repository guidance, build/test path, CI state, related PRs, and known baseline failures before implementation.

03

Sprint Brief

Freeze the objective, definition of done, in-scope files/systems, out-of-scope work, and do-not-touch constraints.

04

Explicit activation

Implementation starts only after the exact brief is approved. Merge and deploy remain off by default.

How the lanes are used

Capacity behind the scenes. One controlled unit of work in front.

Implementation lane

The assigned lane receives only the approved engagement, repository, issue, Sprint Brief, bounded context, and preflight evidence. It works in an isolated branch/workspace and cannot expand its own scope.

Independent review lane

A separate review pass checks the diff against the approved brief and test evidence. Findings bounce back for repair or escalate to guidance instead of quietly changing the deal.

Client controls merge. Production access is not assumed.

Founding pilot

Try one bounded overflow item.

For an early proof engagement, choose one small client backlog item where scope and authority are clear. We agree on the boundary before repository access or implementation.

Best first pilot

  • One repository
  • One feature, integration, bug cluster, or maintenance item
  • Testable definition of done
  • No production credentials required
  • Normal pull-request handoff
